Battle of Badr
غزوة بدر
Battle · Event
The first major battle between the Muslims and the Quraysh (2 AH), in which a small force was given victory; named in the Quran.
Overview
The Battle of Badr was fought in Ramadan of the second year after the Hijrah between the Muslims of Madinah, led by Muhammad ﷺ, and a larger force of the Quraysh of Makkah. The Quran names the battle: "And already had Allah given you victory at Badr while you were few in number" (3:123). Surah Al-Anfal is largely concerned with it, describing how the Prophet was brought out from his home in truth (8:5) and how the believers were aided.
The detailed course of the battle — the march, the numbers, the participants — comes from the sira and hadith literature rather than from the Quran; IslamicGraph will attach those sources as they are ingested.
