Tawhid
التوحيد
Creed · Concept
The oneness of Allah — the foundational doctrine of Islam, declared to Musa at Tuwa and distilled in Surah Al-Ikhlas.
Overview
Tawhid is the affirmation that Allah is one, without partner, in His lordship, His worship and His names and attributes. It is the message of every prophet. Surah Al-Ikhlas states it in four verses: "Say, He is Allah, One" (112:1). "Your god is one God; there is no deity except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful" (2:163), and the Throne Verse opens with the same declaration (2:255).
The first words Allah spoke to Musa at the sacred valley were a statement of tawhid: "Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me" (20:14).

Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
