Musa
موسى
Prophet · Messenger · Quranic figure
Moses — the prophet sent to Pharaoh and to Bani Israel, whose story the Quran tells in more detail than any other.
Overview
Musa (Moses) is the prophet whose story the Quran narrates at the greatest length. Long passages of Ta-Ha (20), Ash-Shu'ara (26), Al-Qasas (28) and Al-A'raf (7) follow him from his infancy in Pharaoh's household to his call at the sacred valley of Tuwa, his confrontation with Pharaoh, the departure of Bani Israel across the sea, and the appointment at the Mount where he received the Tablets.
The Quran describes Musa as both a messenger and a prophet (19:51) and says that Allah spoke to him directly (4:164). His brother Harun was made a prophet alongside him at his own request (20:29–32), and together they were sent to Pharaoh with the message of tawhid and the demand to release Bani Israel (20:47).
The Musa narrative is the Quran's central case study in oppression and deliverance, in trust in Allah under pressure, and in the patience required of a student — the journey with the unnamed servant of Allah in Al-Kahf (18:60–82) is explicitly framed around sabr.
