Revelation at Tuwa
نداء موسى في الوادي المقدس
Revelation · Event
Musa sees a fire on his way from Madyan, is called by Allah in the sacred valley, and is commissioned to go to Pharaoh.
Overview
Returning from Madyan with his family, Musa perceived a fire from the direction of the Mount and went toward it hoping to bring back a brand or find guidance (20:10, 28:29). There he was called by name and told he stood in the sacred valley of Tuwa (20:11–12). Allah declared His oneness to him — "Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me" (20:14) — gave him the signs of the staff and the hand, and commanded him: "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed" (20:24).
The scene is told in Ta-Ha (20:9–48), An-Naml (27:7–12) and Al-Qasas (28:29–35). The Quran speaks of a fire and, in 28:30, of a call from a tree; the phrase "burning bush" is the familiar English name rather than a Quranic expression.
