Bani Israel
بنو إسرائيل
People · Group
The Children of Israel — descendants of Yaqub, delivered from Pharaoh through Musa and addressed at length in the Quran.
Overview
Bani Israel — the Children of Israel — are the descendants of Yaqub, whom the Quran also calls Israel (3:93). They are the people Pharaoh oppressed (28:4), whom Musa and Harun were sent to release (20:47), and who were saved when the sea was parted (2:50).
The Quran addresses them directly and at length, especially in Al-Baqarah, reminding them of Allah's favours (2:40, 2:47), recounting the calf, the appointment at the Mount (2:51, 2:63), and the covenant they were given.
