Misr — the land ruled by Pharaoh in the story of Musa and the country where Yusuf rose to authority.
Overview
Egypt — Misr in the Quran — is the setting of two of the Quran's longest narratives. Yusuf was bought there by an Egyptian official (12:21) and later welcomed his family with the words "Enter Egypt, if Allah wills, safe" (12:99). In the time of Musa, Pharaoh boasted of the kingdom of Egypt and its rivers (43:51), and Musa and Harun were instructed to settle their people in houses in Egypt (10:87).
