Revelation
الوحي
Creed · Concept
Wahy — Allah's communication to His prophets, by inspiration, from behind a veil, or through a messenger-angel.
Overview
Wahy — revelation — is how Allah communicates with human beings: "it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills" (42:51). The Quran says of itself that it is "nothing but a revelation revealed" (53:4).
Musa's call at Tuwa is one of the Quran's most vivid scenes of revelation: "I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed" (20:13), and the Quran later says plainly that Allah spoke to Musa directly (4:164).
